Nashville Sex Crimes Attorney

Defending You Against Criminal Accusations

In Tennessee, depending on the nature of the offense, a sex crime can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony. At either level, the conviction penalties are steep, often resulting in incarceration and/or fines. But, if you're found guilty, a jail or prison sentence isn't the only punishment you can face. One of the most lasting and damaging consequences of many sex crimes convictions is the requirement to register as a sex offender. This would mean that you must regularly provide your personal information to a local law enforcement agency. The information gets put into the sex offender registry, which is searchable by anyone. Having a criminal record itself is enough to wreak havoc on your employment prospects, housing situation, and relationships, but being in a database of convicted sex offenders can make matters worse.

Because the stakes are so high in a Nashville sex crimes case, you need a defense lawyer on your side to aggressively challenge the allegations. At my firm, Andrew C. Beasley, PLLC, you will receive the effective counsel you need to fight your sex crime charge. I, Andrew C. Beasley, understand how frustrating and frightening it can be to be facing a criminal accusation, which is why, when you hire me, I will be by your side throughout the process. Recognizing that you may have questions or concerns that arise at any time, I will be available to you all day, every day. It is my goal to explain the process in clear terms and ensure you understand your legal options.

Prepared to Fight for You

A sex crime isn't one particular offense. Rather, it's an umbrella term used to describe unlawful conduct that is sexual in nature. Tennessee has several laws concerning such behavior.

I provide legal representation for various types of sex crimes in Nashville, including, but not limited to:

  • Indecent exposure: There are a couple of situations in which a person may be charged with this offense: When, in a public place or on someone else's property, they expose their private parts or engaged in sexual contact or conduct and they expect others to view it. Or, when they invite a child to their home to have the minor view their exposed private parts or watch them masturbate. Depending on the nature of the incident, this can be a Class B misdemeanor, a Class A misdemeanor, or a Class E felony.
  • Prostitution: Engaging in or offering to engage in sexual conduct in exchange for something of value is unlawful. In Tennessee, the offense is a Class B misdemeanor.
  • Rape: This offense occurs when a person has unlawful sexual penetration with someone else, and the act was committed by force or coercion, without consent, or when the victim was mentally incapacitated or physically helpless. Rape is a Class B felony.
  • Sexual battery: If a person engages in unlawful sexual contact through force or coercion, without the victim's consent, or when the alleged victim is mentally incapacitated or unable to resist, they may be charged with this Class E felony offense.
  • Sexual exploitation of a minor: Also referred to as child pornography, this offense occurs when someone possesses material that depicts a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Generally, it's a Class D felony. However, depending on the number of images in a person's possession, it may be a Class C felony or Class B felony.
  • Statutory rape: A person may be charged with this offense if they engage in sexual penetration with someone under 18 years of age. Depending on the defendant's and alleged victim's ages, the crime can be charged as Class E or Class D felony.
  • Solicitation of a minor: It's unlawful for a person to compel or attempt to compel someone under 18 years of age to engage in sexual conduct. The level of charge levied depends on the act solicited.

Backed by over a decade of legal experience, I have handled various sex crimes cases and know how to develop effective defenses. Additionally, as a former prosecutor, I understand how the State prepares for and presents cases when trying to obtain a conviction. I bring my unique insight to and leverage all available resources in every case I take on. I thoroughly examine the facts and review all relevant laws to develop defenses and cast doubt on the prosecutor's arguments. Regardless of the charge you're facing, you can be confident you will have an advocate on your side fighting to protect your rights and freedom.
